Who is going to be the next Orson Scott Card, W. R. Thompson, or Dave Wolverton? All three are science fiction writers with Utah ties. Reading for the Future of Utah (RFF Utah) is looking for student written short stories, poems, and essays. How about Arthur Roberg, Michael Goodwin, or Leonard Parkin? All are Utah artists creating science fiction and fantasy art. RFF Utah also has a speculative art contest under way. The contests are sponsored by CONduit, Utah's annual science fiction weekend. Prizes include books and CONduit memberships. The RFF Utah Writing and Art Contest accepts entries from students going to Utah schools. The Writing Contest is open to students from grades four through twelve, and the Art Contest to grades six through twelve. We are posting the rules on this webpage, but you may email us for the most recent rules. If you want to know more about what makes a story speculative fiction, I've tried to explain it a little here. Of course, there are many other contests held all over the country, and all over the world, even. Visit this collection of links to find other SF&F writing and art contests that suit your abilities and interests.
