Reading For the Future
RFF Utah Logo

Reading for the Future is a volunteer organization whose aim is to increase the readership of science fiction, fantasy, and other speculative fiction. RFF Utah is Utah's chapter of Reading for the Future. We seek to work with teachers and libraries around the state to provide them with books and curriculum materials that use and promote science fiction and fantasy.

Our motivation is best expressed by an open letter, written by David Brin, Gregory Benford, and Greg Bear, three well known science fiction authors. Essentially, we believe that speculative fiction, and in particular science fiction, helps us to think about the future. It also is a lot of fun to read. As the readership of these genres grows older, we must work to bring this literature to younger readers, who will keep the genres alive with their fresh enthusiasm.

There is a national email list for Reading for the Future. There is also an email list for RFF Utah.

RFF Utah is collecting SF&F books and related materials for various projects. If you would like a speaker on Reading for the Future, we may be able to help you find someone. Read all about it here.

1999 was the first year that RFF Utah, in association with CONduit, held a student writing and art contest. For a first year, we didn't do too badly, with seven writing entries, and a dozen art entries. This contest will be held again, for CONduit 14: Reloaded. Here are the rules for the sixth annual RFF Utah Student Writing and Art Contest.

Here is a huge collection of useful links related to science fiction and fantasy.

RFF Utah is a reality: we don't just exist on the web. Here is contact information so that you can email us, write us, send us books, or even lots of money! (You have to show ambition, even when you're begging.) The annual report for the fifth year is now online.
